Our exploration of Art as an Area of Knowledge, will attempt to address the following questions:

    • what is art?

    • how can we judge art?

    • how does art contribute to our knowledge of the world?

    • what are the similarities and differences between the arts and sciences?

The aesthetic urge is deeply rooted the human psyche and

seems to distinguish human beings from other animals.

The desire to create is considered by many as a defining human trait.

Abraham Maslow, an American Psychologist developed a Hierarchy of Needs to depict the levels of human needs, psychological and physical.
Maslow used Einstein's writings and accomplishments to exemplify the characteristics of the self actualized person. Self actualization includes creativity.

Psychologist Carl Jung stated, "The supreme goal of man is to fulfill himself as a creative, unique individual according to his own unique potentialities"
